In Victoria, local government is made up of 79 municipalities, responsible for more than six million people. Local Government spend over $8 billion annually to provide over 100 different services to their respective communities in order to deal with important issues such as community safety, peace and order.
Community infrastructure maintained by councils in Victoria is estimated to be valued at over $40 billion and includes town halls, libraries, recreation facilities, parks and gardens. With the unique composition of each and every community within any Local Government Area, each council is therefore faced with an array of unique risks and threats in relation to the security and safety of it’s community and assets.
To assist Victorian councils in improving their community safety, security and confidence in their public places, the Victorian State Government is funding a Community Safety Infrastructure Grant program.
Organizations, that own or manage community facilities are eligible to apply for funding of between $25,000 and $500,000 if they have a project whose primary focus is strengthening public safety and security infrastructure, to prevent crime and to improve public perceptions of community safety.
