Theft from Australian Supply Chains are frequently perpetrated by an organization’s own employees or contractors, occurring across a range of freight-forwarding and storage operations. According to a report by the Australian Institute of Criminology (The Detection and Prevention of Cargo Theft 2001) the greatest risk of theft within the supply chain is during truck transportation or when vehicles are in the process of being loaded or unloaded.
The report also found that large-scale theft at freight forwarding yards frequently follows collusion between a truck driver and a warehouse employee, with between 80 and 99 per cent of cargo thefts in the United States and Australia involving employees in one way or another.
Globally 71% of all supply chain theft occurs from Trucks and 25% from a facility. ‘Hot Products’ being the desired targets.
Hot products are items that are easily disposed of yet retain a high black-market value. This can include Food and Beverage, Alcohol and Tobacco, Pharmaceuticals, and Electronics.
The resale of hot products can be as profitable as narcotics but has significantly reduced risk as thefts often go unreported with freight-forwarders often preferring to protect their brand perception within the marketplace and avoid bad publicity.

- Hold a current Advanced First Aid and Provide Advanced Resuscitation certificates
- Have completed a Medical Assessment
- Undertake random Drug and Alcohol testing
- Complete annual conflict resolution and CPR Training
- Complete a site induction as required

Gippsafe Security’s Mobile Patrol Services are used to detect and deter criminal activity and respond to alarm activations after hours.
With the rapid evolution of electronic surveillance systems, Gippsafe Security offer virtual patrol services to our construction clientele. A virtual patrol involves a Gippsafe Security Operator remotely accessing our client’s surveillance system and monitoring the site for criminal or maintenance concerns.
Our Operators can perform a virtual walk through of the site in accordance with a schedule, or as the result of an alarm, allowing for greater visibility of the site, assisting to contribute to our client’s environmental objectives, whilst delivering real cost savings.
Gippsafe Security can install, maintain, or upgrade Electronic Surveillance, Access Control and Alarm Systems. These systems are cost effective networks of integrated devices that work to manage and monitor access to a specific area(s) or buildings.
This field is enjoying a rapid advancement in technology, allowing Gippsafe to offer solar powered CCTV solutions to temporary or permanent sites. This allows greater flexibility in unit placement and greatly increases the area of possible coverage, while drastically reducing the cost of cabling.
Gippsafe Security offer Security Risk Management services to our construction clients. This is a process that involves our qualified risk managers working with our construction clients to continually identify and map security threats, implement strategies, and allocate the necessary resources to mitigate or remove the threat.
